Our Story

Founded in 1870 and having continuously operated since then, Fiske Brothers Refining Company, d/b/a LUBRIPLATE Lubricants Company, is the manufacturer of the world famous LUBRIPLATE Brand of industrial, automotive, marine, recreational and household lubricants. LUBRIPLATE Lubricants are manufactured and packaged at the Company's wholly-owned facility in Toledo, OH. The Company maintains its headquarters in Newark, NJ, and its lubricants are shipped from distribution centers in Toledo, OH and Newark, NJ. LUBRIPLATE Lubricants Company is ISO-9001 registered and the Company's NSF H1 registered food grade lubricants are ISO-21469 certified.

In 1937, Fiske Brothers Refining Company acquired the LUBRIPLATE Corporation from Robert L. Watts, the inventor of LUBRIPLATE Lubricants. Mr. Watts had combined a calcium thickening agent with mineral oil, zinc-oxide and other compounds to form a grease which prevented wear and corrosion like none other on the market at the time. Prior to the acquisition, Mr. Watts, in 1933, patented his three original products "LUBRIPLATE Light," "LUBRIPLATE Medium" and "LUBRIPLATE Heavy" based on the use of zinc-oxide as the anti-wear additive and which gave these greases their distinctive white color. Those three greases are still a major portion of the LUBRIPLATE product range in 2019.

In the 21st century, LUBRIPLATE Lubricants Company produces a full range of synthetic/long life lubricants, petroleum-based lubricants and Eco-Green lubricants. The Company's LUBRIPLATE Brand NSF/H-1 registered food grade lubricants are world renown for quality, durability, varied packaging and availability through LUBRIPLATE's vast worldwide distribution network.
